Heaven must be like this . . .

I'm enjoying a glass of my favorite type of wine while I'm cozy in bed (the room is cold so I can snuggle under the covers) and I'm curled up with a book.

Pure bliss. :oD

I'm currently working on "As I Lay Dying" by William Faulkner, which started off a little tricky, but has gotten soooooo good. I'm glad I didn't give up on this. It's easy to read in terms of language, but it is a stream of consciousness book with each chapter being narrated by someone new. It takes a while before you start to piece together how each character is connected as well as be able to make out individual voices and identities.

But oh my oh my . . . ::sigh:: I am in heaven.

A portion of conversation between myself and Dr. F

Me: It's Monday.
Brad: It is, indeed, Monday.
Me: Brad, Mondays suck. Tell me something happy.
Brad: My patient died.
Me: What?! Wow, Brad, you really suck at this game. Are you serious?
Brad: Yeah. He died before his appointment. It's okay. It's better for him. He's in a better place.

Umm, yeah, I'm sure he is Brad. Wow. Stuff like this is why I adore our fellows.

Favorite things of the week

* productivity (I LOVE having stuff to do . . . I LOVE the idea that this brings job security)
* Jackie cardigans from J.Crew (perfect sleeve length, perfect weight)
* Bare Escentuals makeup (I turn into an infomercial for this stuff)
* the colors: coral, Kelly green, cobalt blue, butter yellow, navy (bright, happy colors save for navy, which is still spring-like since it's not black)
* sandal season (here come the toes!)
* spring rain (refreshing)
* crafty stuff (making those flower arrangements made me so happy)
* highlights (summery!)

I'm thinking this will have to be a weekly occurrence if for no other reason than to remind myself to smile sometimes and be grateful for the things in my life that may seem like trivial junk to some, but for whatever reason really make me delighted.

"Please" and "thank you."

I really am surprised by how little words like "please" and "thank you" go so far, sometimes. I think in our society, we definitely don't take into consideration the simple acts and words that really can make someone's day.

Please, say "please" and "thank you."

Thank you.

Good cheer

I'm spreading good "juju" today. Last night, I drove out to Safeway after a bible study and bought about ten bundles of daffodils (ten in each bundle), a bundle of long cattails and a box of Mason canning jars. Using ribbon, a hot glue gun and some note cards I already had, I put the flowers/cattails in the jars with water and tied a bow around the lid, which I secured with a dab of hot glue.

They came out really cute! I think in my head they looked cuter when I was trying to visualize it, but alas, sometimes it just doesn't quite work out for my finicky self.

I gave one to each of the nurse practitioners, nurse coordinators, our admin staff, our medical examiner, one for the docs, one for the team in general, and one for George, our ringleader.

In light of recent events, I found myself feeling slightly guilty for being so snide and vindictive with the way things are happening in our office. Work that is falling through the cracks and things that aren't getting done is serving as a source of derisive laughter on my part instead of a call to pick up the pace and try to keep the bases covered for the sake of the department and patients.

So, in humility, I brought daffodils. I'll edit this later with a picture, but they look really cute and everyone likes them. :o) I got a hug from Barbara, one of our NPs, as a thank you. The office just looks more cheerful, you know? And from that, I feel a little bit better and more inspired to do more.

It's amazing how doing something nice, not for thank you's but just to make others smile when things have been going so crappy lately, makes me smile also. I'm more motivated to work hard (especially given that I'm up to interview sometime soon) and it certainly brings good, springtime vibes to the office. Even one of the fellows, Brad, smiled at seeing them when I half expected a sarcastic comment or light joke.

Good tidings to Interventional Radiology! :o)

Piss-and-moan du jour!

Okay . . . here it comes. The gripe list of the day:

1. I'm tired!
Ian wanted my help with a video project for his French class last night. Of course, it was due today, which negates any hope of being able to do some and save the rest for later. Brilliant. Went to bed at a quarter to midnight. Had to get up at 5. Ugh.

2. I'm sick!
There is nothing that ticks me off more than nasal congestion. Seriously. I'll take bronchitis over it any day of the week. (Okay, slight exaggeration there, but I've had bronchitis before and it's not nearly as scary as it sounds.) I have managed to go to bed later than I anticipated two nights in a row now (the first was my fault, the second - see above) and with getting up by 5:00 every morning, it doesn't make for a lot of rest and recuperation, which leads me to . . .

3. I can't run!
I have a marathon in less than 30 days and I'm nowhere near as prepared as I should be! Part of it's my fault for not training better right from the get-go, and while I know I shouldn't be too hard on myself for that (it's a daunting task, but I know it's not going to be my last race), it still aggravates me that now that I need to knuckle down a bit more and go with it, I can't! I ran a few days ago before I really got knocked off my feet and it was fine, but now? I wouldn't be able to breathe all that well.

4. Work is lame!
I really want to stay home for a bit. The last two weekends haven't exactly been my own, so I've been in need of some R&R. Carol's been out sick, and while I wouldn't wish being sick on anyone and I don't blame her for getting sick (it happens), I wish she'd come back so the office wasn't so freaking stressful. Mostly the stress comes from trying to figure out who's doing what. Without the capabilities and the computer access to do all of the work that she's done, it's not like I can step in and do it for her. Ugh.

While I know that a lot of this stuff (okay, ALL of it) isn't really a big deal, it seems like it is right now in the heat of my frustration, upset and general ticked-offness about the whole shebang. I am going home tonight, will be going to bed early. Just me, some NyQuil (the good stuff!) and a cup of Sleepytime tea.

My bed with my beautiful fluffy down comforter is looking so lovely in my mind.

Fail.

When I started this blog, I really did intend for it to be reflective, thought-provoking and more intellectually-based ponderings while I drank my morning coffee. I have completely failed at this task for quite some time now.

Here's to a new start . . . and blogs for which the title is quite appropriate. :o)
